It seems Raul Castro is doing right, unlike this brother, the previous President, Fidel Castro.
Today the Communist nation of Cuba has authorized the unrestricted sale of computers, dvd’s, and players. This is the first sign of Raul Castro is attempting to improve Cubans access to consumer goods.
“An internal government memo seen by Reuters on Thursday said the appliances long desired by Cubans can go on sale immediately, although air conditioners will not be available until next year and toasters until 2010 due to limited power supplies.”
I guess he’s actually trying to do good, the opressor allowing the opressed to some luxury is always a good sign. Last year at Cuban Airports, customs would sieze these things from you, and now you’re allowed to openly buy these products.
It may seem that Cuba is becoming more democratic and free, while I see it otherwise. They may allow certain privileges for the Cuban people, but they won’t become a democracy any time soon. Why is that? Because the people who left Cuba will want to return and flood the Cuban Ports and Airports, good for the economy over there, bad for the people.
